Like all legends, this one is based on historical events. From Mitrovdan to St. George’s Day, Hajduk Stanko stayed in Crna Bara in Mačva, and from St. George’s Day to Mitrovdan, he stayed in the Frushkogorska forest with other haiduks. Staying outdoors was exhausting, difficult and demanding, especially at night when the temperature in the mountainous areas can drop by as much as 10 degrees, so it was necessary to find a way to stay warm.
And so the recipe remained, which was passed down through generation to generation so it could become a part of your feast in a perfected version.
